Chief Justice Nthomeng Majara is the first woman to become the Chief Justice of Lesotho. She holds a Master’s Degree in law (LL.M) from King’s College London and a Law degree from the National University of Lesotho. Among her professional roles, she served as a Lecturer at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), was a Research Associate at Women and Law in Southern Africa Research and Educational Trust (WLSA) and Head of Internal Affairs at the Lesotho Revenue Authority in 2003. She was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Lesotho in 2004 and was appointed Acting Judge of the High Court of Namibia in 2010.
She was appointed Chief Justice of Lesotho in 2014 and held the position until 2019. She chaired the Commission of Enquiry on the Adoption of Children in Lesotho in 2007 and briefly served on the Metropolitan Health Board. She has served as a member of the Council of State of Lesotho. CJ Majara is also a Trustee of the Queen’s National Trust Fund.
